Et potestatem, sic felix!
Ut enim mirabilia in mundo
Et ad habendum cognitionem mundi
Cor mundum crea in omnes
Quod ut explorent, et discite a me
In omni loco, ad novum amicis
Et nova memoriae
Quod donum immortalitatis sit...

So unfortunate, so horrible!
To see the dear friends I made
Around the world disappear forever
I have all the time in the world
To live in loneliness and sorrow
I have to keep up as the world changes
My language, appearance, customs
It's tiring and depressing to see
Old traditions gradually fade away
What a curse immortality is...
Here's the first verse in English:

So empowering, so lucky!
To see the world's wonders
To obtain the world's knowledge
All the time in the world is mine
Mine to explore and learn
To make new friends everywhere
And make new memories
What a gift immortality is...

The reason why I did the first verse in Latin is because the person with immortality is from the ancient world where everyone spoke Latin. Since he lives forever, the world around him changes, forcing him to change with it. Immortality may seem like a wonderful gift, but once you live long enough and seen enough, you'll know it is a terrible burden to have.

There was a TV series in the 1990s which told this exact story. It was called The Highlander and was based on a movie of the same name from 1987. I'm pretty sure you're too young to have seen it, which perfectly demonstrates one of the key points in my book - that there are 'stories' or 'songs' or whatever floating around 'out there' that never change.

As I read the comments below, I had to laugh. People say things like "Yeah man, immortality sucks". Which is funny because it's actually true - that's why we get a brand new body every 60-90 years or so, that's why we're born with amnesia of all past lives and that's why each time we come back, we're born to a different family.

Even though I supposedly knew this story, reading it here anew helped me achieve a certain perspective within my own work. Gin-Zura is truly magical - I'll hire you to write or draw anytime!
